Gunmen have killed a former councillor, Hon. Daniel Danjuma Chong, during an attack on Rim community in Riyom Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
Sources said the deceased, also known as Hon. Star, was a former councillor representing Rim Ward in Riyom LGA.
Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), confirmed the incident, saying the attackers invaded the community at about 10:45pm on Sunday.
Narrating the incident, Tengwong said, “The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), under the leadership of its National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, is saddened by another round of attack last night that claimed the life of a former legislator of Riyom LGA, which is strongly condemned in its entirety.
“According to local sources within the affected villages in Torok of Rim Community, Riyom Local Government Area, Hon. Daniel Danjuma Chong (aka Hon. Star), a former councillor of Rim Ward, was killed by gunmen who invaded the village at about 10:45pm on August 2, 2026,” he said.
The group alleged that the attackers came from Kess, popularly known as Bangai-Fulani, and invaded the community while shooting sporadically.
It further alleged that Mr. David Dachollom Danjuma sustained a fatal gunshot injury during the attack before the assailants fled the area.
While extending condolences to the family of the deceased and the people of Torok Community, the group called on security agencies and the Plateau State Government to arrest those responsible and ensure justice for the victim.
The group said the continued killing of innocent citizens was unacceptable and urged the authorities to ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
