They Are Not Worthy – Saraki Reveals Why 8th Senate Rejected Magu, Other Buhari’s Appointees

Post Date : December 30, 2020

Ex-Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki said on Tuesday all the decisions taken by the 8th Senate under his leadership were in the interest of the nation.

He specifically said the decision not to confirm some appointees of the Federal Government was reached after the Senate did its due diligence and found them not worthy for confirmation.

Daily Trust reports that among the appointees rejected by the Saraki-led Senate was the former acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu.

Magu’s nomination was rejected twice by the 8th Senate following a security report allegedly written by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Saraki also had a frosty relationship with the presidency with some officials of the government accusing him of frustrating the administration.

But the former Governor of Kwara State reiterated on Tuesday that all the decisions taken under him were in the best interest of the nation and there was nothing personal.

Saraki stated this on his verified twitter page @bukolasaraki.

He wrote: “When we didn’t confirm certain appointees, it was because we did our due diligence.

“When we invited the IG & the security chiefs, it was because we wanted to find solutions to the issues of insecurity at the time. It was never about a personal agenda. It was always about Nigeria!”

Saraki who was responding to the Ovation International Publisher, Dele Momodu added, “the decisions that we took, the positions we adopted, and the interventions that we embarked on were in the interest of the nation.”
