The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Imo state command has paraded 12 suspects arrested in connection with hawking and selling of mint fresh Naira notes.
The suspects arrested through the collaboration of the NSCDC, Department of State Services (DSS) and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) task force against trading on naira notes were arrested in possession of over N8.4 million new naira notes of different denominations.
Addressing newsmen after parading the suspects, the Imo state Commandant of the NSCDC, Raji Ibrahim said the offence contradicts CBN act of 2007 and is punishable by seven years imprisonment.
He reiterated that it is against the law of the country for anyone to trade on Nigerian currency and promised that the raid will continue until the act is brought to an end in the state.
“We have arrested and interrogated them, after investigation, they will be charged to court to face the full weight of the law. Any punishment ordered by the court of law against them, will serve as deterrent to others who may want to engage in the illegal business”, he stressed.
