Post Date : October 27, 2023

Sources close to late Justina Otuene Nkang, a 300-level biochemistry student of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), said chances were she was no longer dating Okoligwe Damian Chinemere, her alleged killer, when she died.

News of Nkang’s death went viral on Thursday after Chinemere was caught in his attempt to dispose of her mutilated body.

The source told FIJ that the victim had been a lover to Chinemere for about three years before the incident.

She said that even though everyone knew they were a couple, they broke up at some point and nobody was sure if they got back together.

“Everyone knew Justina was dating Nkang at some point. In fact, they had dated for about three years,” she told FIJ.

“We knew they broke up afterwards but what is now confusing is if they got back together or were just friends.”

“This is because the guy is also well known. He was in petroleum engineering but his course mates who are currently in 400-level said he stopped coming to school and writing exams since year two.

The late Justina
“When Justina was first reported to be missing on Friday, we weren’t sure where to look as there was a lot of confusion,” she said.

She said that when the late Nkang was reported to be missing on Friday, her family members thought she had been kidnapped and had gone to look for her in Etche, a local government area in the state.

“Her family members said she didn’t return home on Friday. By Monday, the search for her had intensified, and we were beginning to look everywhere.

“When nobody heard anything, some of the search party went to Etche LGA to share her pictures and ask people about her.

“This was because kidnapped people were usually found there.”

The source further said that after the search party returned from Etche, they came to news that she had been killed by her boyfriend.

“Then on Wednesday night, news broke that Chinemere had been caught in relations to Nkang’s disappearance,” said the source.

“When we heard that he had killed her, nobody believed it because it was not the news we were expecting.

“But after much findings and confirmations, we realised that she had been killed by Chinemere. We were all shocked when we confirmed the news.

“The security operatives who caught him found phones, her mutilated body in his house and other things pointing to the murder.

The atmosphere has been so cold everywhere. Nobody is talking about it. People are only having conversations in hushed tones because nobody deserves to die the way she did.”

The source described the victim as a loving personality even though she wasn’t quite serious with academics.

“Justina was a calm and loving girl, although, she was one of the few girls who do not attend classes,” the source said.

“The only time she should come to class is when we have test praciticals or exams.

“She wasn’t serious with her academics but would show up at any social gathering.”
