Residents are groaning as potable water scarcity has hit Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State
Daily Trust gathered on Sunday that residents were moving from one part of the capital city to another in search of drinking water.
In the process, residents have started mounting pressure on borehole water owners/ operators in their vicinity to get drinking water for their families.
Also, many of the borehole operators were reported to have jacked up the price per litre of water supply to their customers.
According to a survey, areas in the metropolis badly affected include, Gadumo, Ganaja, Phase 1 and 2 Lokogoma Housing Estate and adjoining settlements.
As the Yuletide approaches, residents are appealing to the Kogi State Government to come to their rescue and find a lasting solution to the persisting scarcity of potable water challenge that has bedevilled the capital city.
“The drinking water shortage in Lokoja is an embarrassment, considering the natural position of the city as a place where two great rivers meet.
“We appeal to the state government to fix the challenge permanently to stop this attendant suffering of the residents due to incessant scarcity of drinking water”, said Yunusa Ibrahim, a resident of Ganaja-Lokoja.
It would be recalled that the General Manager, Kogi State Water Board, Engineer Mohammed Sagir, appealed to the residents of Gadumo to remain calm two weeks ago over the challenge.
He attributed the scarcity of water in the Lokoja metropolis to a voltage drop in the power supply, stressing that efforts are being intensified to solve the problem.
Engineer Mohammed Sagir could not be reached to speak on the new development, at the time of filing this report.
