Court jails Grand Theft Auto VI hacker for life

The 18-year-old hacker, central to the Grand Theft Auto VI footage leak, faces indefinite confinement in a high-security British hospital prison, the BBC reported on Thursday.

The judge’s decision, influenced by Kurtaj’s autism, stems from concerns about public safety, given the hacker’s expressed intent to persist in cybercrimes if released.

During Thursday’s sentencing, the court said Kurtaj “had been violent while in custody with dozens of reports of injury or property damage.”

A mental health assessment conducted also found that Kurtaj “continued to express the intent to return to cybercrime as soon as possible.”

With the sentencing, he will stay in the hospital prison for life pending doctor’s determination that he’s no longer a danger.

A mental health evaluation revealed a persistent desire for further hacking activities. Consequently, Kurtaj received an indefinite hospital order, mandating his stay in the secure facility unless deemed non-threatening by medical professionals.

This verdict underscores the intricate intersection of legal, mental health, and cybersecurity issues in the case.
