APC sweeps Cross River LG poll, wins all 18 LGAs

The ruling All Progressives Congress has won all 18 chairmanship positions in the Cross River Local Government elections held on Saturday, November 2.

The Chairman of the Cross River State Electoral Commission and the election’s returning officer, Dr Ekong Boco, declared the results at the Commission’s headquarters in Calabar on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

The APC secured wins in Abi, Odukpani, Bakassi, Akpabuyo, Ogoja, Akamkpa, Bekwarra, Etung, Biase, Boki, Calabar Municipality, Obubra, Yakurr, Yala, Obanliku, Obudu, Ikom, and Calabar South LGAs.

Also, certificates of Return were issued to the winners shortly after the declaration of results by Dr Boco.

Cross River State governor Bassey Otu, congratulated the winners and described the elections as peaceful.

He expressed hope that the newly elected LG helmsmen would align with his people’s first agenda for the state.

He said, “We have a well-defined vision for the state, and we believe the new leadership at the local government level would understand that they must align with the state government’s agenda and exhibit unwavering dedication to realizing good governance.”

Nine opposition parties, including the PDP and Labour Party, participated in the elections but did not field candidates across all 196 local council wards in the state’s 18 local government areas.
