Although the deceased did not leave suicide note behind, it was however gathered that he had been showing signs of depression, allegedly over the unresolved strike declared by both the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU).

It was gathered that Carter Oshodin was seen within the University’s premises on Thursday, 8 September, 2022, begging for financial support from neighbours.

He later committed suicide later that night by hanging himself.

Chairman of SSANU, University of Benin Branch, Comrade Osewa Bedrocks could not be reached for comment.

The University’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, however, said she was aware of the incident, but failed to comment.
