Kachallah Auwalu, a bandit kingpin, has been killed during a clash between rival armed groups in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the incident occurred on Saturday at about 4:35 pm in the Maganda area, a forest corridor linked to recurring armed group activities.
Quoting security sources, the publication said Auwalu was a prominent figure within one of the armed factions, with influence across the Maganda, Kuyello, and Dogon Dawa axis.
Makama said the clash was part of an internal confrontation between rival groups, which has continued to escalate within forested communities in the area.
It said another faction, allegedly led by Dogo Gide, was mobilising towards the scene, while casualties were reported among the armed groups, although the figures remain unconfirmed.
The publication noted that troops under sector 1 of Operation Fansan Yamma have been placed on alert to monitor the situation and prevent further escalation.
It added that surveillance and intelligence-driven operations have been intensified across Birnin Gwari and neighbouring communities to stabilise the area and restrict the activities of armed groups.

The incident comes amid a rise in bandit attacks and growing concerns over the proliferation of armed groups across parts of the country.
In a similar incident, Dogo Isah, a notorious bandit leader, was reportedly killed during a violent clash with a rival faction in Kaduna state.
Isah, who was infamous for leading high-profile attacks and terrorising residents in Kachia and parts of Kajuru LGA, was reportedly involved in a confrontation over cattle rustling in Kachia forest on January 7, 2025.
