B’Haram kills two vigilantes, 10 firewood fetchers in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Saturday killed two vigilantes and 10 firewood fetchers in Bokko Ghide community, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

Confirming the incident, the Emir of Gwoza, Mohammed Timta, said the vigilantes (civilian JTF) were ambushed and killed by the assailants along kirawa road under Pulka District.

According to him, the 10 other victims were those who went into the bush in search of firewood.

He said “They went to a nearby bush in search of firewood on Saturday when the boys (insurgents) ambushed them and killed ten and left 2 with life-threatening injuries.

“We buried the 10 and evacuated the injured victims to Maiduguri for medical attention.

“It’s very sad that two of my Civilian JTF members, who sacrificed their lives for my people, were also killed on Friday,” he said.

He prayed to God to reward their sacrifices and grant them Janatul Firdaus, and give their family and the community the fortitude to bear the loss.

The monarch also commended the state government and the military for their relentless effort in dealing with the Boko Haram insurgency.

“They have been doing their best in managing the crisis for over a decade. We also want the military to deploy technological warfare like drones and other sophisticated weapons to end the crisis,” he said.

He noted that the rainy season is about to set in and the spike in attacks has already demoralized people in the area.

“People are now scared to visit their farmlands, and it’s time for land preparation ahead of the rain proper,” he said.

Meanwhile, residents in the area confirmed to PUNCH that the attack has sent fear across the town

” This really shocked us. I know about three people among those killed. It has been a sad day,” a resident of Gwoza, Ali Audu said.

He, however, called for swift security deployment to prevent further attacks on people in the community.
