Borno pastor, four others Killed

An Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria pastor, Musa Umoru, and four residents of Tarfa Village in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State have been killed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

Saturday PUNCH gathered that the terrorists struck the community around 7pm on Thursday, displacing residents and firing sporadically before setting buildings ablaze.

The attackers reportedly stormed the community on motorbikes and operated for over one hour.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent on Friday, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Borno State chapter, Rev. John Bakeni, said residents of the village fled after the attack.

“Truly, there was an attack yesterday (Thursday) evening in a village called Tarfa. I was just informed that five people were killed, including the EYN pastor there. The entire village was burnt down.”

A villager who escaped the attack told Saturday PUNCH that many members of the community had fled to safety.

“It was a devastating attack. They stormed the community en masse and set houses on fire, including shops,” the resident said.

The villager called on the government to increase the deployment of security operatives to the area, saying that residents of the community were under threat.

“We are under threat. They killed five people, including Pastor Evangelist Musa Umoru. As I speak, I have left Tarfa. We need government intervention,” he added.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso, requested time to verify the incident.

“I will inquire and revert,” he said.
