BREAKING: Biafra agitators attack military checkpoint, soldiers feared killed in Imo

Insecurity in Imo State seems unending after suspected Biafra agitators attacked a military checkpoint at Aba Branch in Ehime Mbanọ Local Government area, Imo State on Tuesday night.

Videos obtained by our correspondent showed that the incident happened in front of Ehime Mbanọ Local Council headquarters on Tuesday.

In the one-minute video, the suspected Biafra agitators were seen boasting that soldiers at the checkpoint had fled after the attack.

The hoodlums warned that they would continue to unleash mayhem on the Nigerian security operatives until they (military) leave the entire states in the Southeast.

A local source in the area who preferred anonymity told our correspondent that over seven soldiers were gunned down by the hoodlums.
But CrimeFacts is yet to independently confirm this as of press time.

“Some non-state actors attacked and killed soldiers in the area yesterday,” one source explained. “The whole place is engulfed in chaos, and troops have taken control of nearby communities.”

“We are terrified,” said one resident, who requested anonymity. “The sound of gunfire still lingers in our ears. We don’t know what will happen next. We are worried; Ehime used to be a peaceful place, and now we don’t know what’s going on.”

Residents, terrified for their safety, fled their homes as the sound of heavy gunfire echoed through the night. Many families left in a hurry, uncertain of when they might be able to return

When contacted, the police spokesperson in Imo State, Henry Okoye, referred our correspondent to the military.

However, the army spokesperson in the State, Joseph Akubo didn’t answer calls placed across to him as at press time.
He is also yet to reply to text messages sent to him.

On September 30, hoodlums set ablaze the country home of Frank Ibezim, an ex-Senator who represented Imo North in the Senate.

The gunmen also razed a skill acquisition center at the National Open University (NOU) in Nsu, Ehime Mbano.
