Suspected Biafra agitators enforcing the banned sit-at-home order, launched a series of deadly attacks on Monday morning in various communities throughout Anambra Central Senatorial Zone.
Recently, Anambra governor, Chukwuma Soludo directed residents to go to the markets every Monday. He threatened to lock shops that failed to open.
On Monday morning, it was gathered that the violence unfolded between 8 am and 10 am in Abatete, Abagana, and Ukpo, resulting in at least five fatalities and numerous injuries.
Sources disclosed that the first assault occurred in Abatete, where attackers targeted security personnel assigned to the town’s President-General (PG). Three security guards were shot dead, and the PG sustained severe injuries, necessitating urgent transport to a nearby hospital.
In separate assaults, the gunmen struck Abagana and Ukpo, claiming the lives of a member of the Vigilante Group and a motorcycle rider at the Ukpo roundabout in Dunukofia Local Government Area.
The police have confirmed these incidents. A spokesperson for the police in the state stated, “Details are still emerging, but our operatives are on-site. I will provide more information as soon as possible.”
