A yet-to-be-explained midnight blast has reduced a new family house to rubbles in Imo state.
The mystery bomb explosion which happened at Umuneke, Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Council Area of Imo state did not record any casualty though it razed a newly completed bungalow structure to the ground.
Locals who thronged the site of the collapsed building narrated that there community was shaken to the ground by the loud explosion which they believe destroyed the new building.
In his statement, a community leader, Mr. Emeka Arimanwa,
President, Udodiri Family Meeting, Umuneke Obazu Mbieri stated that residents report that at about 1:00 am, a suspected drone was seen hovering over Umuneke in Obazu Mbieri and neighboring Umunjam and Amaulu in Ihitte Mbieri Autonomous Communities.
The community leader said this was a very unusual occurrence.
He said about ten minutes from the time the suspected drone was sighted, a terribly loud explosion was heard bringing one building down and causing varying degrees of harm to several buildings.
Arimanwa said the effect of the explosion was felt more than 2km from its epicenter.
Donatus Ogemdi, a local said: “We even have reports from neighbouring villages who are also wondering where the loud midnight explosion came from. It is a horrible thing that nobody saw anything or anybody, all we heard was the loud explosion and today we are here gazing at new building of our kinsmen reduced to rubbles.”
He regretted that the couple that owned the new building are already making arrangements to pack into their new building by February.
“This will indeed come as a shock to the couple. After all their efforts, labour and expenditure, their expectations to move into their new home next has been dashed in their faces”, he said.
Our reporter gathered that the matter has been taken to the Imo state Police Command for further investigations.
Meanwhile, Police authorities in the state were yet to react to the unfortunate development.
