There was confusion on the River Niger Bridge, Onitsha, Anambra State, as a commercial bus burst into flames on Sunday.
The incident happened at about 1:30pm.
Although no life was lost, as all the occupants had escaped before the fire circulated, the vehicle burnt beyond recognition.
According to sources, about 12 passengers were in the vehicle when the incident happened.
The sources said the cause of the inferno was suspected to be electrical fault.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Adeoye Irelewuyi, said fire service team was promptly alerted and the situation was under control.
Irelewuyi said, “A hummer bus was on flame on the River Niger bridge. The fire service was alerted and they responded swiftly and brought the situation under control. All passengers are safe.”
Meanwhile, along the Onitsha-Awka Road, by the Serve Oil area, a pandemonium was also created, as two suspected robbers were set ablaze by angry mob.
The situation caused a heavy traffic in the area as the body of the suspected robber burnt.
