Carpenter electrocuted while roofing building in Anambra

A yet-to-be-identified carpenter has been electrocuted at a construction site in Amawbia, the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Friday while the victim was roofing a new building situated under a high-tension pole.

This was corroborated by a video from the scene currently circulating on social media, showing the corpse of the deceased being brought down from the top of the building by some good-spirited individuals.

The voice notes that accompanied the video said the victim was on top of the building carrying out some roofing work when one of the zinc sheets he was holding mistakenly touched the high-tension wire, and he was immediately electrocuted.

Some eyewitnesses confirmed to our correspondent that the victim was a known person in the neighbourhood.

An eyewitness and a trader near the scene said, “The incident happened in the afternoon on Friday as the man was setting the roofing sheets of the building, one of them touched the high tension pole and immediately electrocuted him.

“The lifeless body hung on the building for some minutes before it was brought down by some people.”

When contacted, the state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached for confirmation as calls and messages to his telephone were not yet responded to.
