The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has raised the alarm over alleged fresh plot by aggrieved members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

It claimed it was aware of an alleged plan by members of the Rivers State House, whose seats were declared vacant, last week, for defecting, to obtain an ex parte injunction to continue to function as members of the Assembly.

CUPP secretary, Peter Ameh, who spoke at a press briefing, in Abuja, said the plot was for the aggrieved members to obtain an ex parte order to secure their seats and there after allegedly move against Fubara.

According to him, the ex parte application is to declare that the certificate of returns of the defecting members “cannot be withdrawn by the Independent Nation Electoral Commission (INEC), even when those acts have been completed and also a declaration that the former House of Assembly members should continue to function.

“Consequentially, the move to secure an order for the Nigerian Police to continue to protect these culprits as members would have its adverse effect..We are lovers of democracy and we do no wish any negative happens to our rather nascent democracy.”

Ahile denouncing the alleged plot, Ameh urged the judiciary to reject the ex parte applications and safeguard the country. He also charged security agencies to remain apolitical and “ensure that the institutions of government, especially the Rivers State Government is protected.”
