A 30-year-old interior decorator has been killed in the Ogida area of Benin City, Edo state, under circumstances that have left her family and community in shock.
The incident occurred on May 27 at Ojo Street in the Ogida area of Benin City.
The deceased lady, named Esohe Aigbe, was said to have gone to the area to assist a friend in decorating a venue for a burial ceremony.
It was reported that upon finishing the job, she encountered a group of unidentified individuals. What began as a disagreement quickly escalated into violence.
Witnesses disclosed that Esohe was dragged along the road during the confrontation, sustaining severe bodily injuries.
She was rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where she died due to a deep matchet cut.
According to EBS News, her brother disclosed the frantic efforts to save her.
“It was a machete cut,” he said. “After about 30 minutes, I even donated two pints of blood for her.”
He said despite the medical team’s best efforts, Esohe succumbed to her injuries and that her body has since been deposited at the mortuary.
Eno Ikoedem, the spokesperson for the Edo state police command, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
