Federal Polytechnic Bauchi expels 30 students for exam malpractice, certificate forgery

The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has dismissed 30 of its students for examination malpractice and forgery of their certificates.

The Rector of the institution, Sanusi Gumau, flanked by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Barr. Isaac Abbot Ogbobula disclosed this at a press conference held on Sunday.

He said that the students who were found guilty by the Academic Board of the institution reported the matter to the Governing Council.

He explained that 14 of the students were dismissed for engaging in exam malpractice while the remaining 16 students were dismissed for either forging their Senior Secondary School Certificate or their National Diploma Certificate.

Gumau said, “Part of the many decisions we took at the Council meeting was to discuss the cases of students who were, in one way or the other, involved in examination misconduct and they are 14 of them.

“There are also the cases of 16 students for the falsification of either their O’ levels or ND results who are now in HND. It was discovered that their certificates are not genuine based on the committee that was set up to verify their certificates.

“And based on the information of the National Diploma Certificate of where they graduated, they forged it and got admission into this institution. These students were expelled from the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi. These are the disciplinary actions that the Council took.”

Asked on what the management was doing to provide adequate security of staff and students of the institution and their properties amidst the recent attacks of schools across the country, he said a lot is being done.

He, however, said that for security reasons, he will not disclose what is being done in order not to jeopardize the measures put in place.

Gumau said, “There are some issues here I will not disclose and the reason is that one of our staff was recently killed and it was his neighbour that gave a clue. He has been arrested and I don’t want to tell you how but thank God, we got reliable information and we are working on it.

“Thank God, the security agencies of the state, the military, DSS, the police, the Bauchi Emirate Council, are doing extremely well on the issue of security and I don’t want to tell you how.”
