Five’ killed as suspected bandits attack Oyo national park

Suspected bandits have killed at least five personnel of the old National Park Service office in Oloka, Orire LGA of Oyo state.

Teslim Kareem, conservator of the park, said the bandits attacked the park at about 9:00 pm on Tuesday.

Kareem noted that the exact number of casualties had yet to be determined as the bodies of the victims were yet to be recovered, as they were believed to be in a nearby forest.

“Yes, it is true; we are in the process of evacuating the victims,” Kareem said.

Ayanlade Olayinka, police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the attacked, noting that the perpetrators were yet to be identified.

“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men against the men of the National Park,” he said.

Olayinka said Femi Haruna, commissioner of police in the state, had deployed tactical teams, Mobile Police Force officers, and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units to the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

He added that the commissioner of police and other security chiefs were on their way to the scene.
