Gunmen kill ex-councillor, rob passengers in Benue

Gunmen have reportedly killed a former councillor who represented Tombo Ward, Atindiga Tsebee, and robbed several passengers along the Ayilamo–Anyiin road in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Residents said the gunmen invaded the community around 5:00pm at the weekend, and shot Tsebee in the chest while he was returning from a community meeting.

Witnesses said the assailants blocked the road, dispossessed travellers of their belongings, and physically assaulted some victims before fleeing.

It was gathered that the attack came barely two days after a similar incident on October 30, 2025, in which three persons were killed and six others injured at the same location.

Community leaders in Gaambe-Tiev and Ayilamo have expressed concern over the rising cases of insecurity in the area, describing it as alarming and unacceptable.

An opinion leader in the community, Chief Anawah Joseph, called on the Benue State government and security agencies, including Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), to intensify patrols and strengthen surveillance in the area to prevent further attacks.

He warned that continued attacks on farmers in the largely agrarian Logo communities could worsen food insecurity if not urgently addressed.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, had yet to respond to calls and messages put through her telephone for confirmation of the incident.
