IGP orders probe of Portable for ‘creating cult groups’ that terrorised parts of Lagos

Usman Alkali Baba, the inspector-general of police (IGP), has ordered a probe of Portable, the controversial singer, for boasting that he founded two notorious cult groups in Lagos.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesman, broke the news in a short statement on Monday evening.

Portable had earlier claimed he founded the ‘Ajah Boys’ and ‘One Million Boys’ cult groups.

“Cultism: Police to Investigate Portable over formation of One Million Boys Sequel to the trending video of one Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable where he claimed to have formed the One-Million Boys cult group terrorising some parts of Lagos State, the IGP has ordered CP Lagos to investigate the indicting statement and take necessary legal action,” the statement reads.

“This directive is premised on the continuous effort of the Nigeria Police Force to fish out pillars and sponsors of cult groups in order to decimate their activities and restore sanity to our society.”

The ‘One Million Boys’ cult group was infamous for terrorising residents in some parts of Lagos state years back.

It remains to be seen if he indeed founded the group as claimed. His claim has also continued to elicit intense reactions on social media.

The ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner has been in the public eye in the past few days over his apparent duplicity of interests during the recently held election in Osun state.

Portable had earlier endorsed the re-election bid of Gboyega Oyetola, the governor, and led various campaigns for him in Osogbo, the state capital.

He was also said to have collected money from Oyetola.

But the governor lost to Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the polls.

Shortly after the results of the election were announced, Portable was seen celebrating Adeleke’s victory.

He was also seen dancing wildly while taunting the APC, Oyetola and Bola Tinubu, its presidential candidate.
