Ikenga torpedoes Anyanwu’s plot to install PDP BoT member, stamps authority with key nominations

The supremacy battle within the Imo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a decisive turn as Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the party’s state leader and its only surviving elected public office holder from Imo and member of the NationalAssembly, successfully thwarted the plots by sacked former National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu to sneak in another pro- Wike stooge as member of the Board of Trustees of the party.

The BOT at its Monday’s decisive meeting ratified and swore in Hon. Rufus Omeire as new BOT member.

Anyanwu, a loyalist of Minister Nyesom Wike who has undermined the party at all levels, had sought to install his preferred candidate as the South-East representative on the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT).

However, his efforts were crushed by Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who, backed by PDP leaders, governors, and stakeholders across the South-East and beyond, secured the position for his ally, Hon. Rufus Omeire, a former House of Representatives member from Ideato South LGA.

Similarly, the position of Zonal Woman Leader, which Anyanwu had also attempted to influence, was clinched by another Ideato indigene, Mrs. Arodiogbu from Arondizuogu in Ideato North LGA during the just concluded South East Zonal Congress and ratified by PDP NWC on Monday.

The ratification of both appointments marks a major setback for Anyanwu’s camp, which has seen its influence wane significantly from grace to grass.

With this victory, Ikenga and his allies are now pushing for the formal ratification of the acting State Chairman, Chief Chris Odoemena, and the State Secretary, Chief Sylvester Durukweaku, by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC).

Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere however maintains that it is time to end Anyanwu’s “political treachery,” which he claims has weakened Imo PDP and the party’s national leadership.
