INEC declares APC’s Dikko Umar-Radda as Katsina governor-elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Dikko Umar-Radda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the governorship election in Katsina state.

Muazu Abubakar-Gusau, INEC returning officer for the Katsina governorship poll, announced the result on Sunday, adding that Umar-Radda polled 859,892 votes to win the election.

Yakubu Lado-Danmarke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 486,620 votes.

Giving details on voter participation in the election, the INEC returning officer said the number of registered voters in the state was 3,516,719, while those accredited for the governorship election was 1,399,291.

He gave the number of rejected votes as 20,579, while the total valid votes was 1,365,848 and the total votes cast was 1,386,427.

He said elections were cancelled in 88 polling units due to some irregularities such as violence and over-voting.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, Dikko Umar-Radda of the APC is hereby declared winner and returned elected,” Abubakar-Gusau said.
