Jubilation over stoppage of Nembe oil leak, as rights group laud AITEO’s technical depth

There was wild jubilation on the streets of Nembe following the news of the ‘killing’ of the wellhead which had been spilling oil and gas since last month.

The Executive Director of Programs, African Centre for Justice and Human Rights, Miss Chinomso Nduka Edede who has been in Bayelsa monitoring events since the spill, praised AITEO’s technical ingenuity in stopping the leak.

Ms. Edede said AITEO exhibited extra ordinary technical capacity which not many companied could muster if faced with similar challenges.

Edede noted that it was verifiable fact that
AITEO put the people first at all times and not money or business interests.

She also commended the people of Nembe who in the face of the pressing challenges stood together and helped one another to pull through stressing that such was the kind of spirit that is worthy of emulation by all Nigerians.

She said: “Finally we can now leave Bayelsa. We pledged to the people not to leave until we saw this process to an end and ensured the people were not shortchanged. We are glad we have seen the end and the people were not maltreated or used for business sampling. We appreciate AITEO for that and urge all Nigerian companies to emulate them.
