Kano to spend N2.5bn on mass wedding

The Kano State Government has earmarked the sum of N2.5bn for the quarterly mass weddings exercise across the 44 local government areas of the state in 2025.

The State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Shanono, disclosed this while presenting the breakdown of the State’s 2025 budget passed into law by the State House of Assembly on Friday.

According to Shanono, the mass wedding initiative is part of the government’s broader plan to spend N91.32bn in the governance and service delivery sector for various programmes and services toward fostering social welfare and development.

He explained that the commitment to mass weddings was to promote responsibility, openness, and human rights while ensuring a fair society that supports sustainable growth and improves citizens’ living standards.

Shanono highlighted other allocations within the budget, including N1,000,000,000 for Ramadan feeding, N955,000,000 for a manpower statistics survey, a general household survey, and out-of-school children statistics.
