Kogi Bank Robbers Fled With Bullet Wounds, Abandoned Vehicles – Police

 

Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the robbery attack on banks in the Ankpa area of the state on Wednesday, saying the gallantry of its operatives made the hoodlums to abandon three vehicles used for the operation and escaped with bullet wounds.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP William Aya, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Lokoja on Thursday.

He stressed that the synergy of police personnel with other security agents halted the activities of the hoodlums in the town suddenly.

He stated that the Kogi State Police Commissioner, CP Edward Egbuka, had ordered the deployment of operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Quick Unit, and State Intelligence Bureau to Ankpa to restore normalcy.

The command therefore called on the people of the area and it adjoining communities to be on the lookout and report any body seen with bullet wounds to the police or any other security forces nearest to them.

However, residents said that more than five people were allegedly killed during the attack.

An eyewitness said one victim, a young lady who was later identified as Umi, was killed by stray bullets.

Another victim, a young woman reportledly died at a hospital in Allor-Ankpa. A good Samaritan was said to have taken her to the hospital where she died shortly afterwards.

Also, a victim who was rushed to Lokoja Specialist Hospital, was said to have died Thursday morning.
