Lakurawa burn Kebbi Customs camp, kill officer

Suspected members of the notorious Lakurawa terrorist group have launched a deadly attack on a Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) camp in Maje, a community in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Local sources said the assailants invaded the facility in large numbers on Saturday night and opened fire indiscriminately on officers. One Customs personnel was reportedly killed before the attackers set the camp ablaze.

“The terrorists came in numbers and started shooting sporadically. Everyone ran for safety,” a resident told The PUNCH.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kebbi State Government nor the NCS had issued an official statement on the incident.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi State Command, Muhammad Tajudeen, confirmed the attack.

“Yes, the attack actually happened, but you know it’s the doctor that can confirm if he is dead or not. We are currently at the hospital waiting for the doctor’s report. After that, I will let you know,” Tajudeen said.

It would be recalled that the same group attacked Bagudo Local Government Area last week, during which they abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo. The lawmaker regained his freedom on Saturday night after spending a week in captivity.
