Man ‘kills’ wife in Edo eight months after wedding

Kelvin Izekor, a resident of Benin City, Edo, has been arrested by the state police command for allegedly killing his 38-year-old wife Success Izekor.

The incident occurred on February 22, 2025, at their residence in Upper Mission Extension, Benin City.

Witnesses claimed that Kelvin allegedly hit his wife with a cutlass on the head, resulting in deep cuts and her eventual death.

It was gathered that the couple got married in June 2024. Some reports claim neighbours had witnessed Kelvin abusing his wife on multiple occasions.

Moses Yamu, the Edo police PRO, confirmed the death of Success in a statement sent to TheCable Lifestyle on Thursday.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspect was about to be lynched by an angry mob when officers arrived at the scene to rescue him.

Yamu added that the police have charged Kelvin in court, and he has been remanded in prison.

“On 22/02/2025 at about 2200hrs, information was received that one Kelvin Izekor of no 50 Upper Mission extension, Benin-City has killed his wife named Success Izekor aged 38yrs and was about to be lynched by an irate mob,” the statement reads.

“Operatives of the Aduwawa Division swiftly responded to the report and met the lifeless body of the woman lying in the pool of her own blood with deep cuts on her head.

”It took serious efforts by the Police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue, and take the suspect into custody for investigation. The victim was removed and rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

“The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin decried the recent cases of spouses being violent against each other while assuring the public of diligent investigation into the death of the woman and whoever found culpable would be dealt with according to the law.”
