Mother dies 4 weeks after losing son in Lagos building collapse

Funmisola Olaoye has died from injuries sustained in a building collapse at Adeleke Street, Bariga, Lagos, four weeks after losing her only son to the incident.

Hammed, one of her neighbours who spoke with TheCable on Sunday, said the woman died on Saturday at the National Orthopedic Hospital.

“She died at the Gbobi hospital where she had been admitted since the incident happened,” he told TheCable.

“The sad part is that the owner of the building where the structure collapsed has started renovating and didn’t contribute to the treatment of the woman till she lost her life.”

Last month, a structure carrying water tanks in a nearby two-storey building collapsed on Olaoye’s room and instantly took the lives of Ayomide, her 12-year-old son and Tosin, her 27-year-old relative, who was a fresh graduate.

Olaoye suffered a spinal cord injury from the incident, Olaleye, her relative, had told TheCable.

She added that the family spent more than N300,000 at the time to sustain Olaoye’s life.
