A fire outbreak has killed a woman and her three children and destroyed the Rugar Audu Badali Fulani community in Karasuwa LGA of Yobe state.
In a statement on Saturday, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said the incident occurred at about 5pm on Friday.
The victims were identified as Bilkisu, wife of Mallam Bukar, and their three children, Zainab, Hafsat and Salamatu.
SEMA said the victims were buried according to Islamic rites, while surviving members of the household were left homeless following the fire.
The agency said it led a joint assessment and condolence visit to the affected community with officials of the Karasuwa LGA and community stakeholders.
During the visit, the team assessed the extent of the damage and documented the destruction of residential structures and household belongings.
SEMA said it also engaged the bereaved family and other affected residents to assess their immediate needs and psychosocial condition.
The agency added that the assessment established an urgent need for emergency relief materials, temporary shelter and psychosocial support for the displaced survivors.
SEMA expressed condolences to Bukar, his surviving relatives and the people of Karasuwa, while praying for the repose of the victims’ souls.
The agency also pledged to coordinate humanitarian support and mobilise resources to assist those affected by the fire.
It appealed for collective efforts to prevent similar incidents from occurring in communities across the state.
