NDLEA uncovers 320,840 tramadol pills in truck, arrests 75-year-old suspect

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has intercepted large consignments of opioids and other illicit substances concealed in a truck conveying building materials in Taraba State, while also arresting a 75-year-old man in Ebonyi and four female drug suspects in separate operations across Edo, Imo, Kano and Gombe states.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja.

According to the agency, the Taraba interception followed credible intelligence that led operatives to a truck conveying building materials from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Jalingo.

“A thorough search of the vehicle by NDLEA operatives at the Nukkai Timber Shade, Jalingo, led to the discovery of a massive drug stash concealed beneath the cargo, while a 22-year-old suspect, Buhari Abdullahi, was promptly arrested,” the statement said.

Recovered from the truck were “320,840 capsules of tramadol; 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection; 4,500 pills of rohypnol; and 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.”

In Ebonyi State, operatives arrested a 75-year-old man, Okebe Samuel, at Okposi, who was allegedly found with 300 grams of skunk.

“Demonstrating that age is no barrier to the enforcement of the law, NDLEA operatives in Ebonyi State tracked down and arrested a 75-year-old grandpa, Okebe Samuel, at Okposi. The septuagenarian was found in possession of 300 grams of skunk, which he sells in retail sachets to the youth in his community,” the agency said.

At Uyosa, Chioma Igba (24) and Precious Ozomah (22) were arrested with “176 grams of skunk, 65 grams of Loud, and 5 grams of Methamphetamine.”

Along Agbor Road, Benin City, Anita Abraham (21) was arrested with “95 grams of Scottish Loud and 329 grams of regular Loud,” while Henry Okey (43) was arrested at Upper Mission with assorted psychotropic substances.

In Kano State, operatives arrested Saifullahi Lawan (19) at Kafi area of Madobi on Thursday, 4 June 2026, with “40 blocks of skunk weighing a total of 38 kilograms.”

In Gombe State, Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi (28) was intercepted near Dantiti Plaza in Tumfure area with “15,000 capsules of tramadol.”

The agency also said its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation campaign continued across schools in Oyo, Lagos, Anambra and Kano states.

Reacting to the operations, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers and men of the affected commands.

“The War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities by NDLEA Commands and formations equally continued across the country in the past week,” he said.

He added that the agency “remains fully committed to dismantling drug supply chains and will continue to target traffickers regardless of age, gender, or concealment methods.”
