NERC completes transfer of electricity regulatory oversight to Ekiti, Imo, and Ondo

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has completed the transfer of regulatory oversight over the electricity market in Enugu, Ekiti, Imo, and Ondo to the state governments.

In a statement on Monday, NERC announced that as of January 10, it had started transferring regulatory oversight to 10 states.

NERC said Oyo, Edo, Kogi, Lagos, Ogun, and Niger states are still undergoing the transfer process.

On April 22, 2024, NERC approved the transfer of electricity market regulation to Enugu and Ekiti states.

The commission ordered the transfer of oversight of the electricity market in Ondo to the state’s electricity regulatory commission on April 23, 2024.

On July 1, 2024, NERC transferred regulatory oversight of Imo’s power market to the state’s electricity regulatory commission.

Also, on August 5, 2024, the commission announced the transfer of electricity market oversight in Oyo to the state’s electricity regulatory commission.

On August 21, 2024, NERC issued an order transferring regulatory oversight of Edo’s electricity market to the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ESERC).

In an order on September 18, 2024, the commission transferred electricity market oversight to the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC).

Also, on December 19, 2024, NERC issued an order transferring regulatory oversight of Lagos’s electricity market to the state government.

On December 30, 2024, the commission issued an order transferring electricity market oversight in Ogun to the state’s electricity regulatory commission.

For Niger, NERC issued an order on January 10, transferring regulatory oversight of the electricity market to Niger State’s Electricity Regulatory Commission.
