Buhari to address Nigerians from Eagle Square

The Presidency on Wednesday said the Queen of England , Queen Elizabeth II , has sent a message of felicitation to President Muhammadu Buhari on Nigeria ’ s 60th independence holding on Thursday.

This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity , Femi Adesina, titled, ‘ The Queen of England congratulates Nigeria on 60th independence anniversary. ’
Adesina said the Queen ’ s message was conveyed by the British High Commission in Nigeria .

“ It gives me great pleasure to offer my warmest congratulations on the 60th anniversary of Nigeria ’ s Independence , together with my best wishes for your country’ s continued happiness and prosperity

“ The United Kingdom and Nigeria benefit from strong and enduring ties as Commonwealth partners through shared history and most importantly, our people . These are bonds that I hope and believe will flourish long into the future , ”
the statement quoted the Queen ’ s message.

Nigeria got her independence from Great Britain on October 1, 1960.

President Muhammadu Buhari will, on Thursday, address Nigerians on the nation ’ s 60th independence from the Eagle Square, Abuja .

This is contrary to the annual tradition which sees sitting Presidents addressing the nation through nationwide broadcast at 7am on such days.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity , Femi Adesina , announced the development on Wednesday in a statement titled, ‘ October 1: President Buhari to address the nation from Eagle Square . ’

The statement read , “ As part of activities commemorating the 60th independence anniversary of the country , President Muhammadu Buhari will address the nation from the Eagle Square , Abuja , on Thursday, October 1, 2020.

“ The live address will commence after the anniversary parade beginning at 10am which will be covered by major television and radio stations especially the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria .

“ Please note that in view of the open -air live address, the traditional early morning October 1 presidential broadcast will not feature on Thursday. ”
