Nigeria begins 30-day visa exemption for Rwandan nationals

The Federal Government has commenced the implementation of a 30-day visa exemption policy for Rwandan nationals entering Nigeria.

The Nigeria Immigration Service announced this in a statement issued on Friday, following President Bola Tinubu’s announcement at the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, granting Rwandan nationals visa-free entry into Nigeria for up to 30 days.

According to the statement signed by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the gesture reciprocates a similar arrangement by the Rwandan government for Nigerian citizens.

Under the bilateral arrangement, Rwandan nationals may enter Nigeria without a visa for lawful purposes such as tourism, business and official engagements for a period not exceeding 30 days.

The NIS, however, stated that individuals intending to stay beyond the approved duration would be required to obtain the appropriate visa through a Nigerian embassy or high commission abroad, or via the Nigeria e-visa channel.

It added that all international entry points, including airports, land borders and seaports, had been directed to commence immediate implementation of the policy in line with the presidential directive.

The agency noted that the initiative reflected diplomatic and bilateral relations between Nigeria and Rwanda while promoting intra-African mobility, tourism and economic cooperation.

“The Service remains committed to facilitating safe, orderly, and lawful migration in accordance with international best practices and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement added.
