Nigeria Must Look Beyond Oil, Ogoni Group Tells FG

The Ogoni Liberation Initiative (OLI) has urged the federal government and Nigerians to intensify efforts from dependence on oil to other renewable products as a source of fuel.

At a graduation ceremony for Ogoni youth trained on solar energy production in Abuja, Dr. Douglas Fabeke, noted that this is for Nigeria to be competitive in the emerging world economy as focus is shifting from fossil fuel and renewable energy.

Fabeke stressed that since the whole world is walking away from crude oil, Nigeria needs to embrace change in energy and other discovered resources to grow the economy.

He urged the graduating youths to prepare themselves well as the skills acquired are very apt and timely.

Fabeke, “In view of the fact that energy transmission has become an immediate reality, OLI will ensure that the Niger Delta region is not left behind from the shift away from crude oil and gas.

“Youths in Ogoni land should focus on making an impact beyond the oil sector and with the help of OLI, in partnership with the Green Energy Revolution, we will make it a reality.”

Fabeke said the OLI has vowed to champion a new narrative towards stimulating the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in the region.

While stating that the skills acquired in solar energy production would help them compete favourably with solar energy producers in the country, he urged the youths to be part of constructive engagement that would enable them to plan strategically for economic survival in the country.
