Mr. Bright Nwachukwu has declared his intention to contest the now coveted Imo North Senate Seat in the upcoming by-election to fill the vacant senatorial seat.
Nwachukwu made the declaration yesterday at
the All Progressives Congress (APC) party
secretariat, at Okigwe Road, in Owerri, the Imo
State capital.
Consulting party leaders and appointees of the State Government, at the Commissioners’ Quarters on Wednesday, August 5, he promised to work with Governor Hope Uzodimma if he emerged a senator.
“I’m a policy maker and by the grace of God, with the help of Governor Hope Uzodimma, we’ll expand on his 3Rs –Rehabilitation,
Reconstruction and Recovery initiative.”
Addressing the state party leaders led by Barr.
Marcellnus Nlemigbo, on Thursday, August 6,
2020, Nwachukwu assured the people of Imo-
North Senatorial District of quality representation at the Red Chamber.
The former Director General of the late senator
Benjamin Uwajumogu disclosed that already he
had developed a blueprint for the Zone with
which he will bring the much desired and much
required change in the Zone.
As an oil and gas magnate who has toured over
twenty-five countries of the world interacting
with first-class policy experts and successful
business leaders he promised to bring his vast
experiences of twenty-one years garnered in the
sector and even politics since 1998 to engender
development, and most importantly bring
enduring peace among the people.
“I prefer to be at the background, do the work
and let the action speak for itself,” he stated.
At this juncture he pleaded with Nlemigbo to
allow for a minute silence in honour of the late
Benjamin Uwajumogu whom he had cherished
while he was alive and now wanted to replace at
the Senate.”
Earlier in his address to the political leaders,
stakeholders and appointees of Governor
Uzodimma, Nwachukwu noted, “Today, I’ve
come here to discus with you on the issue of
going to the Senate. It did not accidental that I should run for the Senate because I’ve already attempted National Assembly primaries twice.
Unfortunately, the death of Senator Ben Uwajumogu has created a vacuum and somebody has to occupy it. And I feel I have all it takes. I’m here for my first outing to see you leaders. And I’m here to see you leaders because that blueprint which I sold to Senator Uwajumogu then is still with me -Okigwe Zone needs vibrancy, Okigwe Zone needs experience, Okigwe Zone needs somebody of a humble background, Okigwe Zone needs somebody with a global understanding of how things work and I think I have them. And I want to tell us that looking at Imo State today and looking at our prosperity Governor of the state, we need somebody who is a stabilizer, we need
somebody who is a manager of repute, especially when it has to do with crisis, I’m such a person.
“If I’m sent to Abuja tomorrow, Okigwe Zone will be stable. Our Governor will go home and sleep with his two eyes closed.
“Let me tell all of us, as I’m standing here I
don’t have any godfather who has promised to
front me. The only godfather I have is God. And
with God I look forward to seeing the Governor
to adopt me, because my loyalty to the
Governor will be more than 100%.”
In his remarks, Nlemigbo described Nwachukwu
as eminently qualified and competent to be a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, adding that as a brilliant young man with brilliant ideas, the country needed people like him.
“You are competent and qualified to be a
senator. The country needs a young man like
you. We need upcoming brilliant young men.”
The party chairman, wished there would be a
debate for the aspirants, after listening to
Nwachukwu.
“Talk to us. Let’s see what you can do. In fact,
I’ll encourage the Governor about you so that
people with solutions to our political and social
problems will come up to proffer them to the
country’s myriad of problems.”
He encouraged Nwachukwu not to relent even
if he did not get the seat, that people like him
should come out. “People like you with sharp
intellectual and brilliant ideas should be
exposed to Government, should be advisers to
Government if for nothing else. We’ll take your
message to the Governor as an experienced and
a well exposed man. So I’m happy for you. Keep it up”.
“When you’re good you’re not afraid of
competition. Yes, when you’re good the sky is
your limit. People with your intellectual capacity
should be part of the new foundation Uzodimma
is building for Ndi Imo,” adding that history will
vindicate the Governor.
He assured the people of Okigwe Zone that the
Governor did not wish to impose any senator on
them.
Nlemigbo commended Uzodimma for breaking
the planned dynasty that was foisted on the
state by the Rochas Okorocha administration,
saying that Uzodimma had given Imo people a
sense of belonging again. He noted that it’s even
enough sacrifice so far for the state.
Introducing him before the Okigwe Zone
political appointees and party leaders, APC
apex leaders in Obollo Ward, Chief Ama Iwueze,
described Nwachukwu as a thoroughly
educated and disciplined young man who has
been a manager of men and materials for many
years as well as a good party man.
Another clan leader and retired Auditor General
in the state, Chief John Onyenze, at the
stakeholders’ meeting, had also described
Nwachukwu as a charismatic person who will
not let the Zone down if he is given the
senatorial mandate of the people. Onyenze
urged them to help in marketing the aspirant to
the people.
In a vote-of-thanks, Hon. Austine Nwachukwu,
on behalf of the people of the Zone thanked
and described him as a true family man.
“On behalf of Okigwe Zone Special Advisers ,
respected commissioners, and Senior Special
Assistants to the Governor, we say you’re
welcome. Keep your good work up. If God says
you’re the one to represent us at the Senate
may it be so in Jesus name, Amen,” the former
House of Representatives member prayed.
