Okorocha released after top APC governors intervene

Ibe Pascal Arogorn, Owerri

Ex-Imo governor and current senator representing Imo west senatorial district, Senator Rochas Okorocha has been released on late Sunday night by the police authorities in Imo, Crimefacts.news can authoritatively report.

Crimefacts.news had reported how Okorocha was arrested on Sunday afternoon over alleged forceful entry into sealed property in Imo state.

Those arrested alongside Okorocha were Lasbery Okoroafoanyanwu, former commissioner for transport, Ijeoma Igboanusu, his former Chief of Staff, Domestics Affairs and Steve Asimobi, his current aide at the National Assembly.

Confirming his release, a source close to the former governor said Okorocha was released after top APC governors intervened.

The source also said that Kebbi state governor, Atiku Bagudu championed the dialogue that got Okorocha released.

Crimefacts.news also gathered that three other aides that were arrested alongside Okorocha are still being detained by the police.

When Crimefacts.news contracted Okorocha’s Special Adviser on media, Sam Onwuemeodo also confirmed his release.

He said, “His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has been at his private residence in Owerri since 7 pm, Sunday. Sunday, February 21, 2021 had marked or enthroned a new dimension to lmo politics.

“It is not a good development for the state. The videos pushed out by the appointees and thugs of the Hope Uzodinma’s Administration on their own, had shown that Senator Okorocha was only with his 4 personal aides at the time he was attacked by more than 1000 thugs from the state Government and supported by the police from Government House.

Speaking further, “If Okorocha had been with even ten members of his political family, the incident would not have been one sided episode. But to God be the glory that Okorocha was not the aggressor, he concluded.
