Otti visits Nnamdi Kanu in Sokoto prison

Alex Otti, governor of Abia, on Sunday, visited Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Sokoto correctional centre.

Last month, Kanu was convicted of terrorism and handed a life sentence by James Omotosho of the federal high court in Abuja.

Following Kanu’s conviction, Otti said he had activated a strategy aimed at securing his release.

In a Facebook post, Ejimakor described Otti as “a man of his words”, and appreciated him for fulfilling his promise to Kanu.

“Thank you, Your Excellency, Dr Alex Otti, for fulfilling the promise you made to me to visit your brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. May God bless you. And may your august visit to Sokoto today be the first step to ending this undeserved ordeal, sooner than later,” he wrote.

Emmanuel Kanu, the IPOB leader’s brother, in his own post, described the gesture as a collective signal.

“Governor Alex Otti and the people of Sokoto have made a unified statement by visiting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, neither Otti nor the Sokoto correctional centre has issued an official statement on the visit as of the time of this report.
