A day after the imposition of a 24-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government of Plateau State, normalcy has been restored in various communities of the metropolis.
On Monday, the Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, imposed a 24-hour curfew in Jos North to curtail the spread of violence in the area following the attack and killing of Fulani travellers around Gadabiyu-Rukuba road on Saturday.
The travellers were on their way back to Ondo and Ekiti States after attending religious events in Bauchi State.
On Tuesday, correspondents going round the city centre observed the city looked deserted, and security personnel were stationed at strategic locations to prevent any unforeseen violence.
Combined security personnel including soldiers, police, and vigilantes were equally seen patrolling the major roads.
Monday night, the State Commissioner of Police after a security meeting at the Government House, assured that the security agencies would go all out to ensure that they fish out the criminals and miscreants who must be made to face the law of the land, advising “Citizens to abide by the curfew and avoid violations as the security agencies are poised to enforce the directives of the Governor in maintaining law and order. ”
Also, former member representing Jos North/ Bassa Federal Constituency Hon. Shehu Sale Hassan, while condemning the incident, pleaded with the people of Jos North and Bassa to embrace people as they were known for over the years, calling on them to stay at home pending the lifting of the curfew.
Sale Hassan further said he was saddened and deeply pained by the ugly incident which is capable of worsening the security situation in Plateau State and Nigeria in general.
