Police Arrest 70-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Defilement Of Eight-Year-Old Girl In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man over the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in the Tsakanin Bayara area of Bauchi metropolis.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.

According to the statement, the case was reported at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, by the girl’s 48-year-old father.

The police said the father reportedly told the police that on Sunday, August 24, at about 11 am, Abubakar, who resides in the same area, allegedly lured his eight-year-old daughter to an unfinished building, where he allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

Following the report, police operatives attached to the division arrested the suspect.

The police noted the suspect confessed to the alleged offence during interrogation.

The victim was subsequently taken to the Police Clinic for medical examination and care.

The Commissioner of Police condemned the alleged act, describing it as unacceptable, and assured members of the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.

The suspect is currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, where the police said the case would be handled discreetly before prosecution in accordance with the law.

The command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance towards sexual violence and child abuse, urging parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The police also called on members of the public to support efforts to protect children from sexual abuse and other forms of violence.
