Police Arrest Man Over Alleged False Alarm On Bandits Invasion In Ebonyi

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested Nwali Nwibo for spreading false information claiming that bandits and Fulani herdsmen had invaded Nguzu Edda Community in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

This was contained in a press statement released on Friday night by the spokesperson of the state Command, SP Joshua Ukandu, and obtained by Channels Television.

According to Ukandu, the arrest followed a painstaking intelligence-led investigation conducted by the Command, which established the falsity of the report and led to the apprehension of the suspect.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Okafor, has urged residents of the state to verify the authenticity of information before posting or sharing it on social media and other platforms.

She cautioned members of the public against the dissemination of false information capable of causing panic, fear, and a breakdown of law and order.

The Commissioner further reiterated the Command’s commitment to prosecuting individuals who engage in the creation or spread of fake news, in accordance with the law.
