Police warn against protest over abduction of Kebbi schoolgirls

Kebbi State Police Command said on Friday that it received credible information that some non-governmental organisations are planning protests in the state over the abduction of schoolgirls in Maga.

The police, in a statement, described the planned protest as counterproductive as it seeks to undermine efforts being made by security forces to rescue the abducted girls unhurt.

CSP Nafiu Abubakar added that the situation in the state is fragile, therefore, protests will aggravate the already tense atmosphere.

“We hereby caution the NGOs to shelve it and allow the security agencies do their work and to as well cooperate with the police by sharing with them credible information that could help in their operations,” the statement said.

Abubakar noted that the police are ready to ensure the sustenance of prevailing peace in Kebbi and sternly warned against public destruction or attack on innocent citizens of Kebbi State.

Abubakar urged people of Kebbi State to remain calm and law-abiding as the police will leave no stone unturned in safeguarding lives and property of people of Kebbi State.
