Tinubu, Gambari, Dangote, Others In Maiduguri As Shettima Marries Out Daughter

 

Top personalities and thousands of people from all works of life, yesterday stormed the palace of the Shehu of Borno as the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Kashim Shettima, married out daughter, Fatima Kashim Shettima, to Sadiq Ibrahim Bunu.

The event, which witnessed heavy security presence, was attended by top personalities, including representatives of the president, Prof Ibrahim Gambari; Senate President Ahmad Lawan; APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu; business mogul, Aliko Dangote; Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba; governors and ministers, among others.

As early as 7am, hundreds of people of the ancient city of Maiduguri trooped out to attend the wedding ceremony, with some youths dressed in colourful attires holding Nigeria’s and APC flags to welcome dignitaries.

A former governor of Bauchi State and national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu, stood in for the groom and accepted the wedding vow from the Borno State governor, Babagana Umara Zulum who stood in for the bride.

Zulum accepted the dowry worth 12 gold coins.

Similarly, the Maiduguri International Airport fleet was also filled with private jets flown in by prominent personalities and politicians who went to grace the event.

Our correspondent who visited the Maiduguri International Airport on Saturday morning observed a large number of private jets.

The ceremony also caused heavy traffic gridlock, especially along the roads leading to the Shehu’s palace and the city centre for more than three hours, apart from numerous security vehicles blaring sirens in the city.
