Two female factory workers drown in Kano pool

The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the recovery of the bodies of two women who lost their lives after falling into a pool in Gezawa Local Government Area of the state.

According to a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the incident occurred on Tuesday, at about 11:15 am.

The control room of the Fire Service had reportedly received a distress call from the commander of the vigilante group in Gezawa, reporting that two women had fallen into a body of water under unclear circumstances.

Preliminary reports revealed that the victims were workers at a local zobo (hibiscus drink) processing company. They allegedly entered the water to bathe after closing from work.
“According to relatives, the victims entered the water intending to wash themselves after work, which sadly led to their deaths.

“Efforts to locate the women began the previous evening but proved unsuccessful until Tuesday morning, when the rescue team retrieved both victims from the water, unfortunately unconscious.

The remains of the two women were handed over to the Gezawa Police Division for further investigation,” the statement read.
The Kano State Fire Service condoled the families of the deceased and urged members of the public to exercise caution around open water bodies, especially in industrial areas.
