Two Kogi varsity students arrested for killing 300-level student

Two students of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Ayingba, Kogi State, have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 300-level Biochemistry student of the institution, Mr David Ocholi Solomon.

This was disclosed on Saturday during a condolence visit by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo, to the family of the deceased in Lokoja.

According to a statement issued by the institution’s spokesperson, Uredo Omale, the suspects were arrested within two hours of the incident and have been handed over to security agencies for further investigation and prosecution.

The Vice-Chancellor said the suspects were apprehended by the university’s internal security team before being transferred to law enforcement authorities.

“The suspects were arrested by the internal security of the University, and they have been handed over to the law enforcement agency for further investigation and prosecution.

“I received news of the unfortunate incident while attending the 35th Annual National Conference and Convention of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) at the University of Ibadan.

“This is deeply painful and distressing, as the news plunged the entire University community into mourning,” he stated.

He added that the university was working closely with security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and to identify all those involved in the incident.

The Vice-Chancellor said the institution maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards cultism, violence and criminality, stressing that measures had been intensified to strengthen security within and around the campus.

He also disclosed that further security reforms would be introduced in the coming days to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

Ogbo commended Governor Usman Ododo, traditional rulers and security agencies for their support in maintaining peace in the university community.

Responding on behalf of the family, the father of the deceased, Mr Solomon Idachaba, appreciated the university management for the condolence visit and commended the swift arrest of the suspects.

He urged authorities to ensure that justice is served.
