Two WAEC students, motorcyclist die in Rivers road accident

Two female students writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and one commercial motorcyclist died on Wednesday in a road accident in Rivers state.

TheCable understands the accident occurred along Choba Bridge on the East-West road in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The students were reportedly returning from their examination centre when the motorcycles conveying them speedily ran into a moving truck.

“The students were coming back from Odoha Community Secondary School, Emohua LGA of Rivers after writing the WAEC exams,” a source said.

“It happened today. Three people died: one okada rider and two WAEC female students.”

Another source said, “the exam centre is barely 30 minutes from the Choba Bridge where the accident occurred”.

“Choba is the host community to the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT),” the source added.

It was gathered that several other persons sustained injuries in the accident and were taken to the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Operatives of the Choba divisional police headquarters were reportedly deployed to the scene to maintain law and order.

A video of the incident posted on X showed the bodies of the victims lying on the road after the crash.

As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers state police command and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had yet to issue an official comment on the incident.
