$10m Scandal: Court stops Reps’ ‘trial’ of CUPP spokesman, orders Gbajabiamila to appear before it

The Federal High court sitting in Abuja and presided over by Justice Taiwo Taiwo has restrained the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Clerk, other officials and privies of the green Chambers from proceeding with their deliberation or invitation against the spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere.

This is also as the court ordered the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila to appear before it in seven days’ time.

Delivering his ruling upon the motion Ex-parte filed on the 7th of May 2020, in suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/475/2020, Justice Taiwo Taiwo ordered Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila and the Clerk of the House, “to produce and tender on oath before this Honourable Court, original version of the Control of Infectious Disease Bill, 2020 within seven days.”

Consequently, this court order puts on hold, ongoing moves to invite the Opposition Coalition Spokesperson, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere to appear before the Henry Nwawuba led adhoc Committee probing the media statements and opposition of the CUPP to Speaker Gbajabiamila’s compulsory vaccination bill, a position the Speaker considers offensive.

Justice Taiwo while delivering ruling in the suit brought by the Action People’s Party(APP) and the CUPP spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, reminded the defendants – Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Clerk of the National Assembly and the Inspector General of Police) of the settled position of the law that once a matter is in court, parties to the suit must not do anything to foist upon the court a situation of fait accompli.
The matter was adjourned to the 27th of May, 2020.
