Gunmen kidnap Immigration Officer in Benue, demand N20m ransom

Gunmen have reportedly abducted a Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) officer, Simon Agbo, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

According to family sources, the incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday while Agbo was outside his residence with two neighbours.

The assailants reportedly stormed the area opposite NKST Church in Kuan, behind Modern Market, and fired multiple shots into the air to disperse residents before abducting Agbo at gunpoint.

The victim, who was recently redeployed to the Benue State Command from Kwara State in February, was whisked away to an unknown location.

In response to the incident, local vigilante groups and youths in the community launched a search operation, but the kidnappers managed to evade capture.

Agbo’s younger brother expressed suspicion over the role of one of the neighbours, who allegedly made persistent calls urging the officer to come home earlier in the evening.

“He kept calling and insisting my brother return home or share his location. They were outside talking when the gunmen struck, and only my brother was targeted,” he said.

The neighbour has since been arrested and is currently in police custody pending further investigation.

The abductors have contacted the family and are demanding a ransom of N20 million for Agbo’s release.
