Civil Defence Officer on self-isolation after capturing escaping COVID-19 patient

A COVID-19 positive patient had defiantly attempted to leave the isolation center in Kaduna without authorization but was stopped by a vigilant officer of the National Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC).

Narrating the development, Corps Assistant Joshua Philip who was posted to the Infectious Disease Control Center, Down Quarters, Kaduna South to provide security services in and around the Isolation Centre said a certain COVlD-l9 patient tried against all entreaties, to leave the Center without official authorization on the excuse of attending morning prayers.

The officer blocked off the exit insisting that without permission from a doctor at least, the patient cannot leave the centre.

According to a statement signed by Ekunola Gbenga, the Media Assistant to the NSCDC Commandant-General, a confrontation ensued between the NSCDC officer and the patient who forcefully grabbed the keys of the gate of the Center and tried to escape through the gates.

The patient was said to have engaged the officer in a brawl before he was overpowered and finally arrested by Corps Assistant Joshua Philip.

Following the fracas that ensued after he was stopped from leaving his quarantine ward at the isolation center, the COVID-19 case exposed the officer, Joshua Philip to possible infection of Covid-19.

While the keys were disinfected, doctors gave the Joshua Philip some drugs and also instructed him to self-isolate for two weeks and to call the Center if he develops any symptoms.h

The NSCDC has since strengthened its security measures within the Isolation Centre.
